Nature Escape Spring Break Camp

Spring is officially here, and Catoctin Creek Nature Center is celebrating Spring Break 2012 with Nature Escape Camp! This camp features games, walks, wildlife viewing, storytelling, and crafts. Campers will have the chance to meet our resident snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs, and help prepare food for some of these animals. If you are still searching for the perfect spring break activity for your child, we hope that you will come out and join us for Nature Escape!

Campfire Ring Project

We would like to thank our eagle scout William Paire for upgrading our campfire ring this Saturday March 17th. William will also be constructing benches to be placed around our campfire ring and a cover for our fire wood. We look forward to using our newly improved campfire ring next weekend during our Green Roof Astronomy Program next Saturday March 24th. We would like to thank William’s family, Troop # 273 for their help with this project.

Green Roof Astronomy Program
The Tri-State-Astronomers Club and our staff naturalist will be on hand to lead a night of star gazing and marsh mellow roasting program you won’t want to miss. Blue Bird Box Installation Project

Special thanks to our eagle scout David Kelsey for constructing, and installing our new blue bird boxes. We would like to thank David’s family, Troop # 476, Don Hambright, Joyce Erwin, and Jason Silva for their help installing our blue bird boxes last Saturday March 10th.

Pat Caro from our Frederick County Nature Council will be leading a free beginning birding class this Sunday. We will meet at Catoctin Creek Nature Center at 10am. Pat will teach us helpful birding tips including how to improve our identification of bird calls, and learn where the best place to look for certain species! Don't forget to bring your binoculars!
