A New Visitor to Catoctin Creek Park

Today we had some interesting visitors at Catoctin Creek Park.  A flock of guinea fowl were observed in the park today.  Guinea Fowl are native to Africa. They were introduced to North America when the early settlers arrived.

Home School Drop In Days
On the first Friday of each month we will have hands on activities for families to enjoy at their leisure. Activities include: Animal Adaptations-Anatomy Lab, Winter Bird Identification, and Maryland Geology. This program will be held on the following dates (1/4, 2/1, and 3/1).

Home School Nature Days
In this series, allow our experienced naturalists to enrich your child's studies through a multi-disciplinary approach using nature as a focus. After a group introductory presentation, students will separate into age-based groups to continue their lesson. The scheduled topics are January: 'Tracks & Traces', February: 'Woodland Indians', and March 'Bones'. Parents are encouraged to attend, but also are required to register. The series is held on the last Monday of each month at Catoctin Creek Nature Center.

Creek Chubs Club
These programs are designed for little nature lovers! Your child will learn about the natural world through stories, live animals, nature walks, hands on crafts, and games. Parents are free! Dress appropriately for outdoor activities.

Schools Out Winter Nature Detectives Series
Inquiring minds want to know . . . all about nature's chilly secrets! In each program of this series, we'll explore, investigate, craft, and hike our way to understanding one of nature's wonders. Topics will include: Session 1: Animal Adaptations: learn about animal adaptations including: hibernation, join us as we take a winter wonderland hike and search for winter animal tracks, Session 2: Nature Babies: Spring is here and the forest is stirring. Join us as we search for signs of new life. Come for one or both sessions in this series.
