Frederick County Nature Council (FCNC)

Frederick County Nature Council is a non-profit group of volunteers providing support and advocacy for Fountain Rock Park and Catoctin Creek Nature Center by offering nature oriented programs and activities for all citizens of Frederick County, MD.

Have you ever found an injured or orphaned animal and wondered what to do with it? Will a mother bird really abandon her baby bird if a human touches it? Come to Fountain Rock Nature Center and visit Dr. Barbara Stastny, DVM of Opossum Pike Veterinary Clinic to answer all your wildlife emergency questions!

Whistle Pig-Wake Up!

Frederick County Public Schools Holidays are coming up. Are you looking for something fun for your kids to do on their day off from school? Our NO SCHOOL-ANIMALS RULE program offers a fun filled day of live animal interactions, games, crafts and much more.

When school is out take advantage of the four day series of programming at Fountain Rock Nature Center and Catoctin Creek Park. Children will learn about different animal facts each visit. Enjoy games, crafts, and lots of other fun activities!

Attention all Pre-School & Home School Parents: We wanted to let you know that our Creek Chubs Club Program (2-3 yrs old) and our Home School Nature Days Programs (5-12 yrs old) are now offered on Fridays.


Creek Chubs Club:

These programs are designed for little nature lovers! Your child will learn about the natural world through stories, live animals, nature walks, hands on crafts, and games. Parents are free! Dress appropriately for outdoor activities.

2-3 yrs/1 day/ $10


Home School Nature Days:

Allow our experienced naturalists to enrich your child’s studies through a multi-disciplinary approach using nature as a focus. There will be separate lessons for younger and older home schoolers with a group activity at the end. The scheduled topics are: January “The Amazing Amazon”, February “Animals and Winter Adaptations”, and March “Geology 101”. Parents are encouraged to attend, but are also required to register.

5-12 yrs/1 day/$4.50 child & $4.50 adult
