Enrolling Now: Nature Camp 2013

Nature Camps: Features lively outdoor adventures, interactions with our Nature Center animals, hands-on activities, games, nature walks, storytelling and crafts. Every week will include new adventures as well as weekly favorites such as catching critters and exploring the tributaries, meadows, and forests of Catoctin Creek Park! Please note that all activities are subject to change due to heat advisories or unsafe weather conditions.

Camp Schedule:
4-6 years old
(Sessions; 2, 5, 7, & 8)
Monday-Friday 9:00-11:30 am

6-10 years old
(Sessions: 1, 3, 4, & 6)
Monday-Friday 9:00-4:00 pm

Daily Schedule:
9:00-9:30 am Organized Free Play
9:30-12:00 pm Camp Activities
3:30-4:00 pm Organized Free Play

Organized Free Play: During Organized Free Play campers will have the chance to play board games, toys, puzzles, read nature books, create nature drawings, and assist with the care of the nature center animals. We have listed below the summer camps which still have openings. Week 4: Indian Lore & Craft Camp (July 15-19):
Experience Native American cultures and how they interacted with Nature! Practice skill like arrowhead and rope making. Create crafts like corn husk figures, musical instruments, and dream catchers. Play games and stories and follow “Keeper of the Earth” environmental practices.
Ages: 6-10 years old

Week 6: Creature Feature (July 29-Aug 2):
This camp is ideal for young naturalists that want to search for salamanders, dip-net for fish, dissect owl pellets, explore the park looking for mammal tracks, scat, and bones! Each day will focus on a different and unique wildlife species.

Enrolling Now: ECO-Adventure Camp Summer 2013

ECO-Adventure Camps: Do you enjoy getting your feet wet exploring streams searching for crayfish, salamanders and frogs? Are you tired of getting in trouble for getting your shoes too muddy? Come and join us for a summer filled with outdoors adventures. Choose one or several of our eight weekly summer camp themes. Each week will include a different weekly focus as well as the following core activities: creek walks, nature hikes, team building games, and archery practice. Please note activities are subject to change due to heat advisories and unsafe weather conditions. Location: Catoctin Creek Nature Center.
Ages: 8-13 years old
Camp Schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm

Transportation: Looking for an easier way for transportation to and from camp? Take advantage of our transportation service! For an additional $25 , campers will be safely transported to and from Catoctin Creek Nature Center for camp. Parks and Recreation Shuttle Van will leave daily from Rose Hill Manor at 7:30am and return at 5:00pm. Have that piece of mind this summer and select this great feature for your camper. Transportation is limited to 10 participants.

Week 2: Wildlife Wonders (July 1-5):
Explore the habitats and lives of the wild animals of Catoctin Creek. Meet live animals and explore the creek, woods, and meadows of the park searching for the wild critters that live here. Camp will be closed on Thurs. July 4th for the Fourth of July Holiday.

Week 5: Scales and Slime (July 22-26):
Do you enjoy collecting snakes, frogs, and toads? Put your old shoes on and join us as we search for our favorite herps, and enter the secret world of reptiles and amphibians. Campers will enjoy: stream walks, nature hikes, wildlife explorations, guest speakers, and much more.

Week 6: Keeper of The Wild (July 29-Aug 2):
Join us for a crafty camp that combines the great outdoors and the wonderful world of art. During the week campers will: go on nature walks, listen to Native American stories, dissect owl pellets, explore for wildlife, create Native American crafts, paint with water colors, sketch, and build miniature rafts.

Week 7: Winged Wonders (Aug 5-9):
Have you ever wished you could fly? We will spend a week studying the master of flight: birds, insects, and flying squirrels. Activities for the week will include: insect safari, bird walks, dip netting, and stream searches, designing bird feeders, and nature crafts.

Week 8: Nature Rocks (Aug 12-16):
Join us as we uncover a world from long ago by studying the local history and geology of Catoctin Creek Park. Campers during the week will be collecting rocks, exploring the creek bed, searching for hidden treasures, and geocaching.
